Contingency Plan

Treatment for News Story
Program Title:  Will there ever be a black Prime Minister?
Story Producer: Nuzhat Ahmed
Angle on this story: Why are black people less likely to make it to Britain’s top professions?
Target Audience: 15- 25

This story explores if the system is bias towards a child’s economic background and ethnicity, and how it may make it difficult for them to make it to Britain’s top professions. The story will include data that has worked out the differences in life chances between black and white children.
News Values: (what news values will the story have? What are the main reasons people should listen to the story?)

One of the news values would be familiarity and proximity as it will interest people of the local area and also our target audience as they are young and perhaps in education.

What form (s) will it take and why?

[x] Vox Pop
[  ] Interview
[  ] Outside Broadcast
[  ] Interactive audience
[x] Recorded in studio with sound bytes
[  ] News anchor speaking in studio with reporter
[  ] Other

This story will take the form as a Vox pop as I will get opinions and views from the public regarding the topic. Also it will be recorded in studio with sound bytes.

Who are you going to interview? When/where/why?

I will interview young people in the local area, perhaps aged between 16-18 as this is when they will make the decision to study further or not. I will gain an insight on how they feel about the topic and if they feel it has affected them in any way.

Which of the following will be used? How and why?

[  ] Music (What kind?)

[x]  Sound (What kind?)

[  ] Silence

Technical Needs/Requirements:

-           Microphone

-           Windmuff

-           Dictaphone

-           USB

I have changed my story as I feel this story would appeal to my target audience more as it is relevant to them.
